8 Success Habits: For Curves and For Life!

1. Take Full Responsibility for All Results at Curves and in Life - Good & Bad. You create your own results at Curves (good and bad) by putting yourself in the right frame of mind to accept success. Taking responsibility for both good and bad situations actually allows you to reduce the number of bad situations and increase the number of good ones. You automatically avoid putting yourself in negative situations once you start to take responsibility for them! For instance, if you miss a week of workouts or overindulge in sweets on the weekend, you will likely be left with feelings of guilt and will have created a roadblock for yourself on your path to success. Instead of playing the victim, take full responsibility for your actions. Recognize the choices you made that led to your current circumstances and resolve to make choices in the future that will contribute to your success!

2. Deal With Problems Immediately - Don't let problems sit around and fester because they will never disappear on their own. In fact, they invariably get bigger and more difficult to solve the longer you wait. See how this can relate to weight gain… If you have gained a few pounds in the past few months, and you let this pattern continue, the weight gain will get excessive enough that it becomes much more difficult to lose. We call this the “creep affect. ” Perhaps you really do want to lose the weight, yet you have a habit of procrastinating. You might have a Curves membership, but don’t use it. Is this sounding somewhat familiar? If so, stop your cycle of avoidance and face the problem head on…and success will follow.

3. Don't Second Guess Your Decisions After They're Made - For instance, if you want to lose weight then STAND BY YOUR DECISION - There are enough other people in the world who will second guess what you're doing and possibly discourage you on your goals, but don't join the chorus! Once you commit to something, stick with it, and move forward without looking back. There is power in making a commitment!

4. Take Pride In and Celebrate All Your Accomplishments - Large & Small Look for reasons to be proud of what you do and accomplish at Curves. In fact, the mission at Curves is to motivate and help you along the way to your dreams. Celebrations don't need to be large, they can be as simple as walking into the center of the circuit, throwing your hands up in the air and yelling out, “I just lost 5 inches and 5 pounds in one month!” Create celebrations, big and small, throughout your life. Life is a journey not a destination, you'll be shocked at how good life feels when you're always looking for the positive in it.

5. See Opportunity Where Others See Obstacles. Most people in the world focus on the reasons NOT to do something. However, the women who have decided to join Curves see incredible results by having a clear understanding of why it’s important to take action. Instead if focusing on how hard it may be to workout on a daily basis, they see the opportunity that Curves will create for them. Benefits such as having more energy for their grandchildren, losing weight, and living a healthier and longer life make it well worth the effort. These women do not let perceived obstacles such as time, money, effort, and energy stand in their way. This is one of the most important habits to attain. Other people will make most of their decisions based on fear and thus create obstacles that don't really exist.

6. Know the Difference Between Fantasy & Reality. Many people live in a fantasy world, hoping that luck will fix their problems and wishing that the world was different than it really is. Women who are successful at Curves know that no matter what they wish to happen - it's not luck that makes it occur, it's action. There is no magic potion for health and happiness. For instance, there are too many weight loss scams out in the market that have the potential to decrease your health, rather than help. These women do not consider this path. Instead they look at the reality of every situation and always ask “What’s behind the curtain?” In other words, no matter what these “quick and easy” diet programs, products and gurus tell you, try to see it for what it is. Remember, any weight loss program that promises accelerated weight loss in a short period of time can and will lower your metabolism and set you up for failure.

7. Don't Expect to Do Everything Yourself - Surround yourself with people you trust, who give positive reinforcement, and who will help motivate you every day! At Curves, the staff is there to be your guiding light. They are in the middle of the circuit everyday to be your coach, trainer, friend and motivator.

8. Hang Out With Winners, Not Whiners! Learn what makes people winners and follow their habits. If you are struggling with your weight loss goals and don’t know why, then find someone who has reached their goal, and ask them how they did it. Don’t get caught hanging out with the whiners. Whiners are the type of people who take no responsibility for their lives (in their mind, it's always someone else's fault). Whiners will hold you back from achieving what you really want. WINNERS, on the other hand, will gladly support you on the path to your dreams.

Recipe of the Month
White Bean Salad

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 red onion, cut into wedges
1 bunch thyme, broken into sprigs
¼ cup white wine
14 oz tin cannellini beans
150 g cherry tomatoes, halved
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 cup roughly chopped flat-leaf (Italian) parsley

Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until lightly golden before adding the red onion and thyme. Continue cooking until the onion is soft and transparent, then pour in the white wine. Simmer until the wine has reduced to almost nothing before mixing in the beans. Stir to combine and then remove the bean mixture from the heat.

Tip the beans into a bowl, add the tomatoes, vinegar, and parsley, stir to combine and then season to taste. You may also wish to add a little virgin olive oil to give the salad a rich gloss. Serves 4 as a side dish.
